Applied Science with a concentration in
Sustainable Community Food Systems is a multi-disciplinary, experiential and applied education program about key ecological and social issues in food and agricultural systems.
The Natural Resources and Environmental Management department emphasizes the science and management of natural resources and their links to environmental quality. We provide students with scientific knowledge of the physical, chemical, biological, economic, social, and policy elements of natural resources management.
The College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources creates and delivers knowledge that supports and strengthens families, agricultural and food systems, and the natural environment. We educate and serve the people of Hawai‘i and those from around the world with integrity and excellence.
The Department of Urban and Regional Planning was established in 1973. The department’s interdisciplinary curriculum covers all areas of planning with particular focus on the Asia-Pacific region, environmental planning and sustainability, participatory community planning, housing, and disaster management.
The College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Natural Resource Management (CAFNRM) offers the Bachelor of Science degree (BS) in three areas of specialization: Animal Health and Management (which includes a pre-veterinary option), Aquaculture, and Tropical Agroecology.

Apprenticeships and Internships
The YLT (Youth Leadership Training) program is a two-year internship for college students who work part-time on the farm while attending college full-time. This program can be extended for a fifth semester.

The sustainable agriculture and food systems major offers three tracks of study: food and society; agriculture and ecology; and economics and policies. Students in the agriculture and ecology track will focus on crop and animal production systems, ecology, and practices that mitigate negative impacts while producing environmental and social benefits.
